Jennifer Aitken - HCST Foundation Trustee

Jennifer Aitken is the Director of the Office of Specialized Services and Supplemental Instruction at New Jersey City University (NJCU). She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Saint Peter’s University and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from NJCU.

Ms. Aitken has over 25 years of experience working in the field of disability support services in higher education. Since July 2007, she has served as the Director of the Office of Specialized Services at NJCU. In 2011, she was also assigned to oversee the University’s Supplemental Instruction program. In addition, she is an active member of several campus committees, including the Commencement Committee, CARES Team, Graduate Assistant Selection Committee, and the Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (BIDE) Committee. Ms. Aitken also teaches as an adjunct professor in NJCU’s Psychology Department and has previously taught at Saint Peter’s University.

Ms. Aitken has served one term as Secretary and two terms as President of the New Jersey Association on Higher Education and Disability (NJ AHEAD). She is a member of the Hudson County Office of Inclusion and Accessibility Advisory Board and a trustee on the Hudson County Schools of Technology Foundation Board.

Ms. Aitken currently serves as Vice President of two nonprofit organizations: Round 2 Resources and Together We Achieve (formerly Jersey City Write on Sports). She is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Jersey City (2017–2018), where she served two terms on the Board of Directors and as a trustee of the Jersey City Rotary Foundation. She served for three years as Rotary District 7490’s Public Image Coordinator (2018–2022), Assistant Public Image Coordinator for Rotary Zone 32 (2019–2022), and served on several district committees including Public Image (2018–2020, 2021–2025), Youth Services (2022–2023), and Membership (2016–2017). She was named a Paul Harris Fellow and a Walter D. Head Fellow by the Rotary Club of Jersey City for her service as club president and service to Rotary District 7490.

Ms. Aitken is a proud member of Psi Chi, The National Honor Society in Psychology, and Alpha Sigma Nu, The National Jesuit Honor Society. Her commitment has been recognized with awards such as The National Society of Leadership and Success Excellence in Teaching Award (December 2014) and the Hudson County Latino Foundation Community Service Award (December 2019).
